Many people we talk to are still unsure about whether a website will help their business or not. Being a web design company, we have a hard time understanding how business owners can still be on the fence when it comes to something soo critical to a business’s success.

So, over the next two weeks, we are going to be posting reasons and examples about why your business needs a website. Our goal is to give those individuals the extra comfort they need, so they can finally get off of that fence. After all, fences weren’t meant to be sit upon!

Reason Number One: Promote Your Business

The year is now 2009. When people go looking for a service, for a product, more times than not, they are going to look online. The first stop for these individuals is almost always a search engine such as Google or Yahoo. They type in what they are looking for, let us pretend they are looking for a Construction Company to build an addition to their house. So, they type in, ‘Construction Companies in Pittsburgh’. They find you, right? They don’t? Who are they finding, your competition? That cannot be a good thing. Having a web site gives you the opportunity to put your business right in front of individuals looking for what you have to offer. In order for your business to thrive, you need customers. Without an online presence, you are being passed up by hundreds of potential customers looking for what it is you offer. They just happen to find your competitors first, not a good thing.

Why Should Customers Choose You?

Having a website also gives you the ability to show those potential customers why they need to choose you, why they need to spend their money with you. Let’s use the construction company example again. When someone comes to your website, needing construction work, what could you place on your site that speaks to them and says, “I need this company to build my addition!” ?

First off, a website gives you the ability to tell your customer the story of your company. You can list your credentials and expertise. You can show potential customers the testimonials of your past customers who were extremely happy with choosing your company. All of these things start to break down the barriers that stand between that customer looking at your site and that customer contacting you, which is our goal. In addition to written word, you can also place pictures of your work on your site. Showing a potential customer previous work is a huge benefit, a benefit you cannot get any other way, without spending tens of thousands for television productions.

Promote Your Services and Products

Every business is selling something. Be it a product or a service, your goal is to inspire a transaction that puts money in your bank account. Your website should promote all of the services or products your business offers. Back to our construction example. Do you pave driveways, maybe you only do roofing? To properly promote all of your services and/or products, a website is the only solution that makes sense. A website allows you to showcase that product or service, display pictures of it, give examples and success stories of how your product or service helped your previous customers, and much more.

Promote, Promote, Promote, Promote

The bottom line is that having a website will allow you to promote your business in ways not possible with aging methods such as a Yellow Page Ad or direct mailing campaigns. Every business needs a website. Eventually, like it or not, in order to thrive, your WILL NEED a website. So, are you going to do it now, or wait until your competition dominates the Internet?
